The "Destruction in art symposium" was organised by Gustav Metzger and took place at the Africa Centre and various other venues and public spaces in London during September 1966. As his most enduring contribution to the symposium, Bob Cobbing took the stencil of his Typestract One and subsequently that of the programme of events and gradually destroyed them, running off a print of each of its 500 stages, but making no effort to retain a complete record of the sequence. Of the 21 prints reproduced here the first 6 are versions of Typestract One and the remainder dematerialisations of the symposium programme.
